idk how to say this without it seeming like i’m gloating over all of the people who are straight up having really bad times today, but genuinely, i had a really good day today

i spontaneously GM’d a honey heist game for my cousins and (future) in-laws and it was just, incredible. aside from my partner and sister, none had ever played a ttrpg before. they had so much fun that they want to make it an annual tradition (i had to tell them that playing it monthly wasn’t really possible lol).

at least one of those cousins was wearing a Trump bracelet, and like, it was okay. He was normal about me not shying away from the fact that my partner isn’t “just my roommate.” He was an amazing player, and at the very beginning when i asked them all to tell me how the bears know each other he launched into a like five-minute fully improved monologue about who his character was and how he knew the other bears. genuinely mind blowing and i think he’d make an amazing GM one day

i got to see my brother laugh and have fun for the first time in years, and later in the day he actually opened up about a girl he has a crush on

we had a silly string fight in the back yard and my 70 year old grandpa played with us too

i showed my baby cousins the ipad i was using to draw and i got to show them how to make digital art, and just spend time drawing with the two of them

i spent probably fifteen minutes just talking to one of my uncles who i’ve never had much of a conversation with before about his 21 chickens

the entire drive home, me, partner, brother, sister, and sisters boyfriend just were belting christmas songs at the tops of our lungs and laughing

i came out to my dad and told him i wanted to use a different name. i’ve been anxious about telling him that for like, over a year now even though i use my preferred name literally every where in my day to day life

his reaction was to ask if i was going to change my middle name too, and when i told him i wasn’t sure, he started giving me name suggestions. when he went to bed, he gave me a big hug and said goodnight using my chosen name

and don’t get me wrong, there was… absolutely difficult and sucky parts of the day. but i feel so overwhelmed by love and joy that i don’t know what to do but talk about it

I never actually explained why I started playing the Silent Hill 2 remake. As many people have pointed out, it is an absolutely wild choice (complex, difficult, scary, LONG) for my first video game. (I’m a mobile gamer, I wasn’t allowed to play video games as a kid, etc.) 

Since Jacksepticeye has come back to Tumblr, I’ll be a dork and say that I became a big fan of his channel over the last couple of years, and I started watching game playthroughs generally to wind down at night. I’ll basically watch anything he plays, and in October, he played the new remake. I was maybe 20 when the original came out, but I didn’t know shit about Silent Hill. Something about Pyramid Head, The Scariest Games Ever, not really my thing, but sure. I started watching and... didn’t really get into it. Planets weren’t aligned that day, idk. I let it keep running, went on to the second video, and then we hit THIS scene:

That music comes in out of NOWHERE like strong perfume and I was like, what the fuck is this game, why is the acting so good, what is HAPPENING, I love it. 

For several weeks, I was obsessed with the Akira Yamaoka soundtrack (both versions) and the story. The Actual Autism fully kicked in, and it was better than dealing with the rest of November 2024. I watched multiple people play the game, learned everything about it, didn’t care about the combat, never thought I’d play it myself. 

And then, two months into this... I kinda... I kinda wanted to fight a leg monster. A mannequin. THEY ARE SO SASSY AND THEY’RE SMART despite having no heads. I wanted to engage in noble fisticuffs (anklicuffs?) with these things. I am proud to say that I have gone from getting stuck in the parking lot on day one to actually being really good at fighting mannequins. (It’s the lying figures that get me. Fucking splash-damage motherfuckers.) Over ten hours of practice play in the first three levels of the game, I’ve only died twice so far (and both times were when the game BOXED ME IN and swarmed me with vomit monsters. Rude).

So anyway, I decided to play the game, and @idoherty451 and I started discussing it in excessive depth, and now I want to do a text commentary for sure, and a video gameplay (voice) commentary if I can get that up and running; I already have some rough reaction audio that I've been posting. I just want all this (and the software I’m learning) to be a new set of tools in my “having fun discussing media” box, really. That said, I don’t know how far I’ll actually take the practice run, now that it’s fulfilled its purpose and I’ve diagnosed that my hapless ass needs to be on light combat. I’ve even played South Vale 2-3 times to develop basic skills! I’m doing so good! So it’s helped to do a first run, get through “I’m lost for half an hour” snarls, and practice moving the camera more smoothly. I may leave off with playing ahead before I get to the last two bosses years from now at this rate and let y’all see that happen, for better or worse, without any prep. 

The whole premise here is that I want to walk through the game and talk about all the lore and easter eggs and theories I’ve learned about. It will be the opposite of spoiler-free (minus That One Big Thing I won’t give away). If you would like to watch spoiler-free playthroughs of this long-ass game, I also recommend Marz (new to the franchise) and Gab Smolders (huge OG fan). 

Anyway, this is what I’ll be doing tomorrow while actively ignoring U.S. politics. James Sunderland has some very specific problems, and unlike mine, he can hit most of them with a steel pipe. Wish me luck with Pyramid Head.

Sam unexpectedly joins his brother's stream

It was a typical charity stream, where PewDiePie, Jacksepticeye, and Markiplier joined forces to raise money for a good cause. Fans were having a blast watching their favourite creators laugh, joke, and stumble through different games. The vibe was lighthearted, the donations were pouring in, and everything was going smoothly—until they started a multiplayer match with a few random players.

Suddenly, they began getting obliterated by one player in particular. No matter what they did, this guy was wiping the floor with them.

“Who the heck is this?” Felix groaned, fake annoyance dripping from his voice as he respawned for the fifth time in a row. “Are we playing against an actual professional here?” Mark added.

The fans were going wild in the chat, spamming with questions like:

User1: “WHO IS THIS GUY??”

User2: “Is this a pro gamer? He’s wrecking everyone!”

User3: “Pewds, you getting owned! ���”

While Felix continued to grumble, Jacksepticeye burst out laughing, catching the viewers' attention. “Ohhh, damn it. Isn't that Sam's username, Felix?”

Felix paused for a second, then his eyes widened. “Wait… Sam?!”

Markiplier chimed in with a dramatic sigh. “Well, we may as well just stop trying now. It’s over. If Sam’s in the game, we’re done. We’re all dead.”

The comments exploded even more.

User1: “SAM IS HERE???”

User2: “Not Pewds’ brother killing them all!!”

User3: “Sam, the secret brother who is also an editor, is also killing three gaming youtubers in gaming?!”

User4: “Are they really just quitting? 😂”

Despite their best efforts, no one could put up a decent fight against Sam. He was completely dominating, and all Felix, Jack, and Mark could do was helplessly laugh as they got destroyed over and over again. The whole thing turned into a comedy bit, with the trio of streamers making jokes about how they should just retire from gaming now that Sam was in the picture.

As the match dragged on, out of nowhere, Sam joined their Discord call.

“Yo, you guys really gonna keep playing like that?” Sam’s voice came through, teasing them. “You’re making this too easy.”

The three of them froze for a second, stifling laughter. Sam clearly didn’t know they were live in front of thousands of fans, and the chat absolutely exploded with excitement.

User1: “OMG SAM JOINED THE CALL!!”

User2: “He has no idea 😂”

User3: “Sam is roasting them, and he doesn’t even know it!”

Mark was the first to respond, holding back laughter. “Oh, we’re trying, Sam. Believe me, we’re trying. But apparently, you’re just too good for us.”

“Maybe you should start trying for real,” Sam teased. “I thought you guys were professional gamers. This is embarrassing.”

Felix faked another sigh of frustration. “I’m trying, okay? It’s hard when someone’s playing at 200% sweat mode.”

Jack chuckled. “Yeah, Sam, give us a break, alright? This is for charity, not to shatter our delicate egos.”

Sam laughed. “Sure, sure. Excuses.”

The three of them exchanged a look, clearly holding in their laughter. Not one of them had told Sam that the stream was live, and the fans were loving every second of it.

“Anyway,” Sam continued, oblivious to the thousands of people watching, “I’ll go easy on you guys for a few rounds. Maybe you’ll actually put up a fight.”

Mark couldn’t take it anymore and cracked up. “You say that like we have a chance even if you go easy.”

Finally, Sam caught on to the laughter. “Wait… why are you guys laughing so much?”

There was a long pause, and then Jack, still laughing, said, “Sam, buddy… you’re live. With us. In front of… I dunno, how many people are watching, Felix?”

Felix checked the stream count. “Oh, just a casual 200,000 or so. No big deal.”

There was silence on Sam’s end, followed by a groan. “You didn’t tell me I was live!”

The chat exploded with laughter, hearts, and donations:

User1: “LOOOOOL Sam had no idea!”

User2: “Sam is literally roasting them live 😂”

User3: “Sam, you’re amazing! We need more of you on these streams!”

Felix grinned at the camera. “Well, now you know. And since everyone here is begging for more of you, how about you keep playing with us, huh?”

Sam groaned again, but you could hear the smile in his voice. “Fine, fine. But you’re still going down.”

As the match restarted, the chat was filled with love for Sam, with everyone laughing about how easily he’d destroyed three professional YouTubers. Felix, Jack, and Mark tried their best to regain control of the game, but the banter between them and Sam had turned into the main highlight of the stream. Fans were already demanding more collabs with Pewds’ brother, and it was clear that Sam had accidentally become a star in his own right.

As the stream went on, Felix shot one final grin at the camera, “Guess we’re stuck with him now, bros. Better get used to it.”

I started to type this in the tags of my most recent poll (vote here) but I have far too much to say about my journey as a fan of Dan and Phil, especially after seeing TIT last night. (don't worry, this post is spoiler free)

I originally found them through Dan. I don't remember which video it was exactly, I know it was before the Sunstroke video (oh god that was when I was 12). I ended up binging all of his videos and consequently found Phil. I didn't binge all of Phil's videos. I think I originally just watched all of the videos that had Dan in them, but I started to watch Phil's videos more regularly in 2014/2015.

I think I was drawn more to Dan because I saw him as edgier and I was the angsty kind of kid in middle school. There was a lot I could relate to in his videos. Now that I've grown a bit, I think I have accepted the more Phil-like aspects of myself and he is honestly my favorite of the two now, although it is very close.

I was here when their gaming channel first started. I still own TABINOF and DAPGO. I think I stopped really watching them when the hiatus started. I might have watched a Phil video here or there, especially if Dan appeared in it, but I really fell off.

Then the gaming channel came back and it sparked my love of them again. Their joint content truly is what I loved and love most, but I'm also finding myself enjoying them individually as well? I'm starting to actually catch up on all the content I missed and binging all of the content I haven't watched in a while. I completely missed most of Dystopia Daily when Dan did that series during his tour. I have no idea how many Phil videos I have missed.

It just feels amazing that I managed to rediscover them and realize that I still really love all of their videos, even after around 10 years of being a fan. I feel so lucky that I was able to go see them live this time around after missing out on that for so many years. It's a bit of a shame that I didn't get to properly meet them, but seeing them live was surreal enough. They truly did raise me along with the likes of Jacksepticeye, Markiplier, and Thomas Sanders. I feel really lucky to have been a fan of so many good and kind YouTubers growing up. I think they really made me who I am.

Oh I get to talk about Natewantstobattle and you will regret this.

So! I'm not a NWTB expert so don't expect a full bulletpoint presentation BUT I can share my experience!

Natewantstobattle is a nerdcore turned original artist who made songs about video games, anime and cartoons for years and only recently (last year I think) decided to leave nerdcore behind and focus entirely on original music.

He's made some BANGER songs, has the voice of an angel and seems to have the same enthusiasm about dark/demonic fictional imagery as myself ^_^

He's made a lot of FNAF songs which is how I found him. His music got him noticed by Random Encounters (RE) who make small-budget indie musicals based on video games and decided to make a five-part special musical based on FNAF for which they reached out to get Nate involved. He appeared and sang as a prominent character in that musical as well as plenty of others that they made. Markiplier was also in that musical.

Nate is popular with a lot of Jacksepticeye and Markiplier fans as his content focuses on similar games, leading to the same people finding him. Because of that, the fans' habit of making characters or "egos" for youtubers from their videos also extended to Nate and honestly while I still listen to his music I haven't been active in the fandom for a while so I have no idea how many egos there are now, but I'm desperate to rejoin the fandom space and catch up!

Anyway, the egos I'm very well aware of are Natemare and Phantom.

Haha yeah, he kidnapped Matpat for that music video.

The video in question is for Mangled, a 2~ minute song based on FNAF 2. The character he portrayed was an instant hit with the fans and was subsequently dubbed "Natemare" as a play on nightmare.

Also in 2018 Nate released a limited edition Natemare shirt thus confirming the name as canon and also I have that shirt so cough cough.

Secondly, Phantom!

As far as I'm aware there's practically no canonically confirmed information about him other than he makes deals and steals people's souls. That lead to a lot of fans calling him a demon, including myself.

It took me five years to put together a cosplay for Phantom because I couldn't find one part! You'd think it would be the staff, right? Impossible to find an exact replica, right? No. It was the bloody shirt. I couldn't find a single freaking long sleeve red button up shirt for YEARS. I've got it now, though.

His original albums so far include Sandcastle Kingdoms, Paid in Exposure and To Let Go. That one is actually currently coming out one song at a time on his YouTube channel and music streaming platforms. There's only two songs out at the moment and I think the plan was to release them slowly until they were all released by the time the album itself dropped, but it was announced last month that it's been brought forwards to the 18th! That's in FOUR DAYS!!!! The last song to come out was Forgotten on Tuesday which is the one you saw me blogging about. It slaps so fucking hard you have no idea.

If you want any personal recommendations for his music, my favourites of his original work are Phantom, Forgotten, All I See, Perfect by Design and Branded.

PIf you look up Phantom you may see it titled as a Hazbin Hotel song but actually it came out a good while before Hazbin Hotel did, he just realised how well the character of Phantom matched with Alastor from HH and released a remastered version with some of Alastor's voice lines over it.

My favourites of his nerdcore songs are Mangled, No More, Stay the Course, Time to Move on and Ask for More. That last one is about Food Wars. I don't even watch that show, that's just how good the song is.

Oh! As an addition that I almost forgot to talk about, he's also a voice actor! He's appeared in Attack on Titan, Fairy Tail, he plays the main character in Luck and Logic and has appeared in multiple video games like Dream Daddy, Yandere Simulator and Monster Prom.

I have a lot of likes and dislikes about Poppy Playtime in general but for some reason I wanna make a post about this criticism/gripe that came to mind

(Chapter 4 spoilers)

I really think the moral conundrum “you have to kill to move on” scene doesn’t fully hit the way it’s intended to and it *could have* if it were Yarnaby instead of a random mini smiling friend.

Yarnaby is built up in the game (if you bother to collect and read the papers) to be a sympathetic character. The Doctor is cartoonishly evil and abusive towards him. And we know that although Yarnaby is not capable of speaking, he has intelligence and preferences for those who are nicer towards him and is able to communicate this preference. He’s also present throughout a portion of the chapter, is introduced very shortly after the player learns that a majority of the characters were children, and it really sinks in right then and there what kind of psychological torture he’s gone through. Plus I just love his character design.

But the game treats it like any other boss chase where you are actively fighting to survive and you don’t get much of a chance for your actions to sink in or really any choice in what happens. Although what happened to Yarnaby was horrible, it’s over quickly (and some Let’s Players straight up missed portions of the animation) and I honestly found Mommy Longlegs’ death far more brutal, cinematically. She seems desperate, Yarnaby gets killed off relatively fast.

Then the game presents you with a monologue about how you should feel bad about killing one of the other characters and… I mean, yeah, if it were real life it would be pretty horrible but the game doesn’t do a great job (imo) of making you actually care. I’m saying this as someone who is very empathetic towards video game characters in general and still feel a little bad about it, when watching Jacksepticeye play that scene with zero remorse I had to agree with him that it just kind of… doesn’t land.

For one thing, we’ve never seen this specific character. For another, the player has already shot a million of these little guys with the exact same design/model, it’s a little desensitizing. And we’ve been hinted to that the reason they attack is that a bunch of these dudes went feral from hunger (or may do so in the future) so you could almost justify it as a mercy kill.

Additionally, the game gives you zero ability to do literally anything else, you can’t progress otherwise, there’s no real “choice”, so you can’t feel guilty finding out later that you could have spared them by doing an extra puzzle, or whatever.

It’s like the Portal Companion Cube scene but if you had never seen a cube before this. Or you’d incinerated 50 cubes before the game decided to tell you that this cube is nice actually.

It should’ve been a choice about Yarnaby. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

Sonic but Undertale Souls: Forces Version 3 Sonic

If you aren't aware, this is one of many Sonic AUs about if the Sonic world has Undertale Souls in it. I explained how all that worked in a separate post and it's recommended you read that to understand some of what I say- and don't worry! It's not a long read!

Anyways this is specifically about Sonic Forces and version 3 of of the other two possible outcomes, all having something to do with Sonic's soul getting fucked up. Anyways, there's more about him and how I came up with the idea below the drawing!

He's finally here, and now I get to rant about what I came up with for him! >:)

You can probably skip this part but if you're curious how I managed to come up with this here's the story behind that: It came from me rewatching Jacksepticeye playing Undertale- specifically from the True Lab section and onwards. During his fight with Asriel I was thinking about how I wanted to do some cool design stuff like Asriel's God of Hyperdeath, but how? If the death rate for absorbing a soul is super high then how on earth could literally any of the characters absorb enough souls (not to mention why and how they'd absorb that many) to gain a form at least somewhat as cool looking as Asriel's? Then version 3 of my Sonic Forces AU came to mind and... well... I'll explain the rest below.

So idk the specifics but during Sonics imprisonment on the Death Egg not only was he tortured but Eggman did all kinds of unethical experiments on Sonic's soul, eventually causing it to turn a color nobody has ever seen before: Black.

With such a corrupted soul and many months of torture he eventually breaks and instinctively kills Infinite (the reason he's got that tail) and eats his soul. Not absorb. Eat. And in this way he gains soul power without absorbing another soul. (Note: He only has this ability due to the corrupted nature of his soul. If a regular person were to try and eat a soul one of two things would happen depending on how fast it breaks: 1 is that nothing would happen, 2 is that the souls attempt to combine and inevitably kill that person's own soul) He ends up repeating this process with Eggman and, deciding he's a monster, stays up on the Death Egg. But eventually he gets hungry. He tries eating the food on the Death Egg but it just doesn't fill him. There's still this cold, empty, and hungry feeling inside of him. And he has a bad feeling the only thing that'd satisfy him is a soul.

So he goes awhile without food, probably about a week, and eventually he's so damn hungry that ends up going down to earth to look for some animal souls to sustain him. He sucks the soul out of the animal's body and basically just secludes himself in the forest. He feeds on the souls of animals, getting ever so slightly stronger with each one, even if he has a feeling that human and mobian souls would be much more fulfilling.

But eventually a nearby village starts finding these untouched corpses left behind when scavenging for food in the forest since the war only very recently ended and get concerned that there's a monster in the forest. So they send a few hunters out and... well... they found what they were looking for, but died in the process.

As for Sonic he's having major issues after consuming a bunch of souls (also causing him to look like the drawing) that had murder on their minds. He tries his best to resist but he ends up wandering close to the edge of the forest near the village, just barely keeping himself from going on a murderous rampage. But then the village sends out a rescue party and he snaps. He ends up consuming every person he finds which is like almost the entire village cause he can see souls that are close by to him.

Although thankfully for literally everyone he ends up staying in that area and basically claims it as his own. The few survivors tell their horror stories and very few people (basically idiots thinking they can kill him with simple weapons) ever go there. But once the world kinda gets back together enough to establish communication again the Resistance Restoration hears about this monster and, of course, want to help. They've got super powers and Sonic has taken on plenty of monsters. All they gotta do is find the Chaos Emeralds and kick this thing's ass!

Thankfully the monster can't absorb their souls in their super forms, but it doesn't take them long to realize who said monster is. And given time the 'monster' might just find these people to be strangely familiar...

Not sure about the hc/life series side of things bc i literally dont keep up with that, but from what ive seen, the large no shipping rules came from smplive and those guys (jschlatt, connoreatspants, the misfits, lunch club, ted nivison, swaggersouls, etc) (who contined to keep those rules for the fandom on their new minecraft server (the one that flopped twice after like two weeks, cant remember the name)) so when minecraft blew up again in 2019, that was the overall mindset.

There also wasnt a clear distinction between c! and cc! at that point in time (the difference would only become known and used during tommy's exile arc on dsmp in dec of 2020, as suggested by dream himself), so any shipping of characters/cubitos largely implied shipping of the real life ccs, somthing that many smplive players brought up and made fun of on stream or on twitter. (This is also one of the reasons why minecraft rp falls under the umbrella rpf category on ao3.)

(2019 was also the tail end of the massive youtuber gaming boom of 2014-2016, where powerhouses like markiplier, jacksepticeye, pewdiepie, dan and phil, vanoss crew, etc had massive fanbases known for writing/pushing rpf, so many people associated fanworks = rpf at the time. I think the smplive guys wanted to nip that in the bud as fast as possible and didnt consider that someone could write about the fictional characters in a fictional space without mentioning the real life creators at all. They didnt see themselves as playing characters.)

This mindset carried over into smpearth and early dsmp in 2020, pushing well into dsmp's lifespan and didnt really start drying out until early to mid 2022 when the dsmp started dying out. I think the fandom mindset at the time was that if the ccs dont care about the server or characters, fans can kinda do what they want. However, shipping was still pretty unpopular/mostly underground. (See: all of the discourse with drawing/showing c!beeduo romantic or not)

At the same time, international minecraft fandoms (specifically looking at the spanish-speaking ones) definitely benefitted from the minecraft boom of 2019/2020, but since they nor their fans interacted with the smplive guys, they didn't feel like it was taboo to talk about shipping. (LatAm culture is also more relaxed with openly showing affection to your friends than american/british culture from what ive seen, too.) So the creators played into these ships in minecraft (and sometimes outside of it) that would've been deemed problematic had they happened in an english-speaking sphere. (See: luckity from Karmaland V, one of the most popular ships of late 2022/early 2023, between Luzu, a 40 year old man with a wife and kid at home, and Quackity, who was 21/22 at the time.)

When the qsmp started in march 2023, this was the first time that english-speaking and spanish-speaking communitites, fandoms, and creators interacted. There was an initial culture shock of the spanish speakers being so open about shipping and rping explicitly gay relationships, but as so much time had passed since the smplive days and as the specific english-speaking creators chosen for qsmp were more chill as a whole, the english fanbase and creators started to buy into and be more relaxed about shipping characters (also where the word cubito comes from.)

(Interestingly enough, from what I've seen, there is still a huge taboo of rpf shipping in non-english speaking minecraft fandoms, just as there is here, but that might either be a twitter thing or maybe it's just implied that shipping two creators automatically means shipping their characters, so rpf is more explicitly labeled and harder to find. There's quite a lot of "not creators, just cubitos" disclaimers on ao3 in spanish and portuguese fics.)

Eventually, this new mindset started leaking into the other english minecraft fandoms like hc and life series where i think it became more acceptable to ship characters?? This is where i don't know what happens bc i don't watch or participate in that fandom.

Oh oh!!! I love watching horror playthroughs too!! Still wakes the deep was super cool to me but I also really like little misfortune (a new game came out recently called Finding Frankie that I'm excited to watch as well :>)

Funny enough it was Radahn who actually got me into the fandom!

I got the game when it came out, got bored when I reached Stormveil and stopped playing for like, a year. Then suddenly I wanted to rewatch Jacksepticeye's playthrough again and my heart seized when he mentioned that Radahn's horse is named Leonard and he learned Gravity magic for him. I wanted to see if any X Reader content for him existed and I found one blog that made really good stuff, @wxnheart! (Sorry for the tag from a random nobody, but I only feel its write to link your blog 💖)

They also wrote for other Elden Ring characters and I decided to try reading their Morgott stuff cause I thought his character was suuuuper cool and I fell down the rabbit hole from there into Morgott simp hell.

Also please be aware that this fic contains a vivid panic attack so if that may trigger you please do not read this, also I went a little lighter on the tickling since it’s meant to be comforting rather than intense here. Without further ado, LET’S DO THIS!

Chase tossed and turned in bed, face screwed up tight as quiet whimpers tumbled from his mouth. His heart raced as his dreams were plagued with nightmarish scenes. Darkness. Spotty lights. His children crying out for him. Hands pulling them from him. An invisible barrier separating him from them. He couldn’t reach them, no matter how hard he tried, how hard he pounded, strained, reached–

‘NO!’

Chase sat bolt upright in bed, shaking with sobs as he clamped his hands over his mouth. He looked around frantically, and more fear raced through him as he was hit by the darkness of his bedroom. He heaved and panted, trying to fumble for the light switch on the wall, but he couldn’t find it. However, before Chase could spiral deeper into his panic, his bedroom door suddenly opened. He flinched initially as the light streamed inside, and when his eyes adjusted he saw someone stood in the doorway – specifically a very concerned Anti, with colossal bed-head.

‘Chase, are you okay?!’

‘A-Anti… I-…’

He whimpered, and succumbed to a fresh fit of sobbing. Anti’s eyes widened at the sight of him, and any drowsiness was purged as he came over. He sat on the edge of Chase’s bed, turning on the bedside lamp, before putting his hand on Chase’s shoulder. He knew the look of a nightmare when he saw it.

‘Hey, hey shh it’s okay. You were just dreaming Chase, just dreaming, it’s all okay.’

Chase wrapped his arms around Anti, clinging to him and burying his face in his shoulder. Anti reciprocated as tight as he could, knowing that this sort of pressure would help Chase to feel more grounded. He rubbed up and down Chase’s back, toyed with his hair, rubbed his upper arms, and tugged one of Chase’s blankets around his shoulders so he didn’t catch a chill.

‘I-I couldn’t r-reach them… th-the kids…’

‘Shh hey they’re okay, the kids are okay they’re safe. They’re just on the school trip, remember?’

Anti rubbed Chase’s back as the man sniffled, trying to get his breathing under control as Anti now realised what had triggered the nightmares. Chase’s kids were on their first ever school trip together, and Anti swore he’d never seen Chase so anxious before. He kept rubbing Chase’s back, and keeping his own breathing as steady as he could so Chase had something to follow. The seconds ticked by slowly, but as the time passed Chase felt the fog inside his head begin to lift. His lungs didn’t feel strained, and he managed to draw his thoughts towards his friend as he looked at him.

‘They’re j-just… they’re just so little.’

Anti smiled his most rare smile. His kind smile.

‘I know, but they’re gonna be okay. They’ve got all their friends and teachers, they’re gonna be just fine. They’re gonna have a ball! I’m pretty sure they’re set on sneaking some squirrels back to add to King’s kingdom.’

Chase let out a wet laugh, and when he saw Anti’s grin filling up his face he couldn’t help but smile back. Soon, all that smiling opened the door to quiet giggles as they both imagined the kids engaging in a full-on quest to smuggle squirrels home in their backpacks. Chase sighed and rubbed his eyes with the heels of his hands, letting out another quiet laugh.

‘God, why is this so difficult?’

Anti thought for a moment, still rubbing Chase’s back. Then he smiled.

‘It’s difficult because you’re a really good dad… and you love them with everything you are.’

Chase beamed, and Anti yelped when he was suddenly yanked into another very tight hug.

‘Thank you Anti.’

Chase whispered, and Anti gladly wrapped his arms around him and squeezed as hard as he could (though not hard enough to maim, of course). When they parted Chase let out another sigh, and Anti cocked his head at him.

‘Feelin’ a bit better?’

Chase’s mouth twisted a little as he replied.

‘Yeah, except now I’m wide awake and my sleep schedule is probably fucked.’

‘Wasn’t it always?’

‘Hey!’

Chase gave Anti a shove, making him snicker. But inside Anti was relieved, because this was the Chase Brody he knew. However he could see the problem Chase was facing, and naturally was determined to help somehow… and then Anti’s brain clicked with the perfect idea. His eyes lit up as he softly bumped his shoulder against Chase’s.

‘I know, I can just tickle you to sleep!’

Chase gaped, his cheeks going pink as his body instinctively straightened.

‘Uh… w-well…I-…’

Anti grinned fondly at Chase’s stutters, and he gave him another playful nudge as his eyes gleamed and sparked.

‘C’mon, you know you get melty when you get tickled on your favourite spots.’

That only made Chase blush more, but he couldn’t deny it. Anti was right. Chase started smiling and fidgeting, thinking about his favourite ticklish spots and imagining Anti’s teasing fingertips, which he was most familiar with.

‘C’mon I’ll be gentle, I proooomise!’

Chase snorted when Anti waggled his eyebrows at him, before he nodded and softly mumbled.

‘I-… I’d really like that.’

Anti grinned, his teeth as ever displaying their wolfish glint. Chase already felt happy goose-bumps rising in his skin as he and Anti got comfortable. Anti used his powers to carefully dim the light as he and Chase got under the blankets, and soon Chase found himself being spooned by the snuggliest glitch you ever did see. Chase shivered a little as Anti’s arm curled round his midriff, his hand gently resting on his side. Anti grinned, and whispered against the back of his neck.

‘Comfy?’

‘Mhm.’

Chase replied, and Anti could hear his little smile. He let his fingers slip under Chase’s t-shirt and begin tracing little shapes against the dip of his side. Anti heard Chase gasp, and then felt his entire body relax as a soft stream of giggles escaped him. Anti grinned and nestled closer, whispering in his ear.

‘There you go, that feel nice?’

Chase nodded, and somehow already felt too drowsy to form a proper sentence. It was working.

‘Good. Just relax and giggle Chasey, just relax and giggle.’

Anti whispered again, making Chase happily blush as he focused on the soothing tingles that were teasing their way through his midriff, with Anti’s fingertips being as skilled as ever. This was exactly what Chase had needed. The dips of his sides, just above his hips, had to be one of his favourite tickle spots on his entire body. This was because in Chase’s case, he could take any method of tickling there and enjoy the absolute hell out of it. Plus, with his sensitivity never diminishing, he knew the soothing feelings wouldn’t fade. Plus, Anti’s gentleness meant Chase didn’t even have to fight to keep his arms up. He could just rest, and giggle through all of it.

‘Your giggles are so cute Chasey, I could listen to them aaall night.’

Chase let out a little whine, half-hiding his face in his pillow as Anti’s fingertips splayed and swirled against his skin. He ought to have been squirming, trying to fight Anti off, but with every fresh tickle his body got heavier and heavier. His eyelids were drooping, and his brain felt like it was being wrapped by a warm fog of comfort. Like a weighted blanket had taken residence inside his head. Anti then snuck a little friendly kiss to the back of Chase’s neck as he whispered.

‘I think I’m gonna tickle you to sleep every night, you’re just so precious and adorable.’

Chase whined quietly, but he couldn’t deny that that sounded like absolute heaven. The waves of tiredness were swelling through his body from head to toe, and he honestly couldn’t remember the last time he’d felt this relaxed. Anti’s fingers were teasing his tummy now, teasing his happy trail, skirting his navel, drawing silly random patterns all over the soft flesh. It was everything dreams were made of.

‘You’re doing great Chase, you’re doing so great…’

Anti whispered, and after a few more little moments Anti then heard Chase’s breaths slow down into a familiar rhythm. He was asleep. Anti smiled, and let out a secret sigh of relief that he’d been holding ever since he’d stepped foot in the room. His fingertips kept tracing, kept trailing, because Anti wanted to be sure Chase was in the deepest slumber possible. He deserved it. Chase was truly one of the kindest people Anti had ever known. Back when all the glitch knew was destruction and villainy, Chase was one of the first to show him kindness, and humanity.

As Anti allowed the lights to fully flicker off, he felt his own tiredness returning. In fact, softly tickling Chase and being so close to him helped Anti drift off too. His fingertips stilled, his breaths slowed, and then like Chase he fell asleep with a smile on his face. Out of instinct, Chase’s hand closed around Anti’s as quiet snores came from them both, and for the rest of the night (and much of the next day) neither of them felt even a hint of a nightmare’s touch. Nor did they, for all the warm days and nights that followed.
